Forks looking beat up? Clear coat chipping?

My forks looked like rough cast aluminum, I actually spent more time than I needed to, should have skipped the gords, or saved it till last. I used a drill with scotch brite pads to remove oxidaxtion, and dents from rocks, then hand sanded with green scotch brite and soapy water in a squirt bottle ( just a few drops of dish soap in a quart of water) Then with waterproof sandpaper, then the 2 buffing wheels (6" dia.) w/ rouge (all available at the tool guy at gibralter cheap) and my drill motor. You could probably duplicate or exceed my reults in a couple hours.....
